Cowabunga Kumpel! Sicher, wir sind vielleicht nicht an der Westküste wie unsere Freunde von Secret Los Angeles, aber ob du es glaubst oder nicht… NYC hat im Sommer ein paar tolle Surfspots zu bieten. Egal, ob du ein Anfänger oder ein erfahrener Shredder bist, es gibt einige gut erreichbare Strände, an denen du außerhalb der Stadt surfen kannst.
Wenn Sie das nächste Mal auf der Suche nach einem kleinen sportlichen Tagesausflug oder vielleicht sogar einem Surfer-Wochenende sind, sollten Sie diese Strände aufsuchen, an denen die rollenden Wellen des Atlantiks für perfekte Bedingungen sorgen.
1. Rockaway Beach, Queens
Rockaway Beach ist wahrscheinlich der beliebteste und am leichtesten zugängliche Surfspot für New Yorker, dank seiner konstanten Wellen, Surfshops und der entspannten Strandatmosphäre. Es gibt sogar 3 spezielle Surfzonen (zwischen Beach 68th und 71st Street, Beach 87th und 92nd Street und Beach 110th und 111th Street), die nach Schwierigkeitsgrad getrennt sind, so dass man leicht herausfinden kann, wohin man gehört!
Dieser Strand in Queens ist nicht nur der legale Ort, um im Großraum NYC auf dem Surfbrett zu reiten, sondern er ist auch voll von Surfschulen wie New York Surf School, Skudin Surf und Surfs Up NY, die Kurse für diejenigen anbieten, die ihre Füße nass machen wollen. Alles in allem ist dieser Strand die beste Wahl, um innerhalb einer Stunde (auch mit der U-Bahn) zum Surfen zu kommen.

2. Skudin Surf bei American Dream
Wie wäre es mit Indoor-Surfen?! Direkt vor den Toren von New York City, im Einkaufszentrum American Dream in New Jersey, können Sie in einem Hallenbad surfen gehen. Skudin Surf betreibt das größte Indoor-Surfwellenbad der Welt, und die hochmoderne Anlage ermöglicht es Surfern aller Erfahrungsstufen, einige Wellen zu shredden.
Da das Wellenbad manuell betrieben wird, kann die Größe der Wellen leicht angepasst werden, so dass es für Anfänger einfacher und für erfahrene Surfer anspruchsvoller wird. 3. Long Beach, Long Island
In Long Beach gibt es zwei feste Surfstrände, den Azores und den Lincoln Boulevard Beach, sowie eine Reihe weiterer Spots (die Sie hier einsehen können). Insgesamt sind die Strände von Long Beach ziemlich sauber und die Wellen sind gut… und es gibt sogar Rettungsschwimmer, die die Aufsicht übernehmen.
Wenn Sie eine andere Möglichkeit suchen, fahren Sie etwas weiter östlich nach Lido Beach, wo es etwas ruhiger zugeht und die Wellen ebenso anmutig sind. Long Beach ist außerdem dafür bekannt, dass hier das ganze Jahr über Surfwettbewerbe stattfinden.

4. Feuerinsel, NY
Die 10 Meilen Sandbänke und Landungsbrücken von Fire Island bieten ein abgelegeneres und ruhigeres Surferlebnis als die anderen auf dieser Liste. Wir empfehlen einen Abstecher zu den östlichen und westlichen Jetties von Ocean Beach, die zu bestimmten Zeiten des Jahres steile und solide Wellen bieten können. Weitere tolle Spots sind Davis Park, Atlantique, Point O‘ Woods und Smith Point.
Beim Surfen auf Fire Island ist zu beachten, dass die Wellen extrem unberechenbar sein können. Informieren Sie sich daher im Voraus auf Surfseiten wie Surfline über die Bedingungen!

5. Montauk, NY
Montauk ist wahrscheinlich der am weitesten entfernte Surfspot auf dieser Liste, aber vielleicht auch der beste der besten. Ganz im Osten der Küste von Long Island gelegen, bietet „The End“ zahlreiche Spots, die für alle Surfer geeignet sind. Einige Spots, die Sie unbedingt auf Ihre Bucket List setzen sollten, sind die berühmten Ditch Plains mit ihren langen Wellen in den Sommermonaten sowie Turtle Cove, das wirklich nur von erfahrenen Surfern angesteuert werden sollte.
Viele sagen, dass man in Montauk am besten im Spätsommer und zu Beginn des Herbstes surft, wenn die Wellen bei Hurrikanen höher werden und größere Wellen erzeugen.

6. Die Hamptons
Unsere Liebe zu den Hamptons ist ziemlich offensichtlich… sie sind voll von gehobenem Charme, hübschen Häusern und Surferstränden? Nun, ja! Wenn Sie dort unterwegs sind, wählen Sie entweder Main Beach in East Hampton, Flying Point Beach in Water Mill oder Cryder Beach in Southampton.

7. Sandy Hook, NJ
Sandy Hook Beach ist Teil der Gateway National Recreation Area und damit einer der natürlichsten und landschaftlich schönsten Surfspots in New Jersey. Natürlich ist er nur ein paar Meilen von New York City entfernt, so dass man sogar die Skyline sehen kann, wenn man mitten im Hochwasser ist. Die Wellen sind hier in der Regel etwa brusthoch und damit ideal zum Surfen, und „The Cove“, wie sie genannt wird, ist Ihre beste Chance, einige Wellen zu erwischen.
