One of the world’s biggest international soccer tournaments, the Copa América, is currently in the middle of its summer 2024 edition…and it’s coming back to the NYC area this week! The oldest continental soccer competition still running is a tournament that brings together national teams from across North and South America in a knockout-style contest.
USA is hosting this year’s tournament as a whole, with major cities earning bids to games including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, and many more…with the Final being in Miami Gardens, Florida on July 14.
This week, NYC’s MetLife Stadium will once again see a huge knockout game played, just weeks after a pair of group stage matches…including the return of the legendary Lionel Messi. See all you need to know about the games below.
Argentina vs Canada Copa América Semifinal 2024
After a pair of games a few weeks ago at MetLife Stadium in the group stage, New Jersey has one of the two semifinal matches welcoming two of the sport’s top teams: Argentina and Canada.
Argentina, complete with Lionel Messi, are coming off the back of a breathtaking victory in penalties against Ecuador last Thursday (4-2) after finishing extra time at 1-1. Similarly, Canada advanced narrowly off penalties too, fending off Venezuela 4-3 in penalties after finish extra time 1-1.
The world #1 will try to continue their dominance against the Canadians, who are in the Copa America semifinal for the first time in their history.
Argentina most recently defeated Canada 2-0 earlier in the group stage.
How to get tickets to Copa América for this week
Currently on sale, tickets for the Argentina vs Canada semifinal match on Thursday are available for purchase on Copa América’s website. Tickets for the highly coveted match range from $270 – $1000+.
How to get to MetLife Stadium for Copa América
Public transportation is the best way to get to the match in East Rutherford this week, with a special, direct NJ Transit rail service running from Secaucus Junction to MetLife Stadium via the Meadowlands line from 6:31 pm to 9:55 pm. There will be no other direct rails to Meadowlands Station besides this particular shuttle.
After the game, the service will run from MetLife Stadium to Secaucus Junction past 1 am if necessary.
Parking at MetLife Stadium
MetLife officials highly suggest taking public transportation to the Copa América matches if possible, however parking will be available. Parking lots will open at 3 pm with gates opening at 6 pm, with lot fees being $40 for standard-sized vehicles and $160 for buses, RVs and oversized vehicles.
There will also be a dedicated pickup and drop-off zone as well for rideshares, etc.

If you can’t make it to MetLife Stadium this week, the semifinal will be broadcasted on television on FS1 at 9 pm on Tuesday, July 9.
