The Beekman Hotel has just opened a cool new underground bar called Alley Cat Amateur Theatre. The venue is the latest from restauranteur and nightclub owner Serge Becker.
With old-school vibes, Alley Cat Amateur Theatre is inspired by the history of its location on Theater Alley, which used to be New York’s theater district. The lounge is designed to look like an old playhouse with decor that includes set pieces, props, and even a stage for live music performances.
The cocktail menu features a Japanese twist with drinks like the “Tokyo Gin Fizz” which is made with gin, shochu, egg white cream, lemon, cherry blossom water, and sesame; or the “Kosho Margarita” which is made with tequila, cointreau, chili, ginger, and yuzu. Complimenting the cocktail menu is a food menu by Tom Colicchio’s restaurant Temple Court (also located within the hotel) that offers small plates such as miso broiled shrimp with bok choy that comes in a curry butter.
The space is designed to fit large groups and can fit up to 110 people.
