Over this past weekend temperatures in Central Park hit record highs at 69 degrees on Saturday and about 67 degrees Sunday! Not one person in NYC was in a coat…in the middle of January. Wild. Due to these warm temperatures, however, cherry trees bloomed throughout the city.

A spokesman for the Central Park Conservancy told the Wall Street Journal this week that ” the Weeping Higan Cherry, now blooming in the park and elsewhere in the city, has flowered during warm spells in winter before, and shouldn’t be harmed by doing so now.” That said, apparently cherry trees in NYC have bloomed as early as December in prior years.
