When the cooler autumn air hits the city, finding a clean, warm, and uncrowded place for kids to swim in Manhattan can feel like a competitive sport of its own.
Fortunately, a massive new option will arrive just in time for the school year. Chelsea Piers Swim is officially opening a brand new, state-of-the-art indoor aquatics facility at Pier 60 this September, specifically designed to take the chaos out of youth swim lessons.
A 90° oasis with heated floors
If you’ve ever shivered your way through a drafty community pool locker room, this new spot is going to feel like a luxury resort.
The new purpose-built facility features a 65-by-20-foot pool that will be kept at a perfectly warm 90º year-round. Even better? The facility is loaded with high-tech perks designed with absolute comfort and cleanliness in mind:
- Ultra-Clean Water: The pool uses advanced UV and chlorine filtration technology engineered to wipe out 99.9% of bacteria and contaminants
- No Post-Swim Shivers: The entire locker room and changing area feature heated floors, so kids stay warm the second they step out of the water
- The “Parent Mezzanine”: Instead of crowding around the pool deck or peering through a foggy window, parents can relax in an elevated, aerial mezzanine viewing area to watch lessons without disrupting the class
Classes from 3 months to teens (with tiny ratios)
Built around a “cradle-to-competitive” pathway, the curriculum focuses heavily on building genuine “water independence.”
To keep things focused and safe, the layout can host up to 10 simultaneous classes while keeping class sizes remarkably small–operating at strict 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 student-to-coach ratios.
The program covers everything from infant classes (starting at 3 months old) to advanced stroke development and pool birthday parties. Plus, they’re launching two exclusive classes for Fall 2026:
- Intro to Swim: A specialized class designed specifically for older beginners (ages 7 and up) who have zero prior swim experience, allowing them to learn comfortably without being grouped with toddlers
- Stroke Development Prep: A transitional class to bridge the gap for strong swimmers getting ready for competitive-level training
Kids will also get to track their milestones using a visual badge progression system, making it easy (and motivating) for families to see real growth over the course of the semester.
Registration is now open for fall programming
While the pool doesn’t officially open its doors until September 10, 2026, you don’t want to wait to look into it. Because high-quality swim instruction is so hard to find in the city, slots are expected to fill up fast.
Registration for the Fall 2026 semester is officially open right now. Parents can view the full schedule, family membership details, and pricing online at the Chelsea Piers Swim website.
