This Saturday saw the opening of Dale Chihuly mesmerizing exhibition at the New York Botanical garden. This world renowned glassblower has captured the imagination of people for decades, now it’s NYC’s turn.
When we talk about going to an art exhibition our mind usually takes us to the post-modern wonderland of the Guggenheim, paintings, installations, and everything in between. We rarely think about glassblowing, that’s for sure.
Dale Chihuly is widely understood to be one of the leading figures in glass sculpture, constantly reinventing and driving forward the use of glass as an artistic medium.
The 75-year-old artist has brought pieces that are representative of his 40 years devoted to glasswork. His pieces are spread over 20 installations and the exhibition took over two years to prepare, with each of the installations being painstakingly paired with complimentary flowers and plants by NYBG staff.
The installations are on view through October 29, here’s a taste of what you can expect:
