Bronx Native and rap star Cardi B has been known for graciously giving back to her borough, like when she covered all funeral costs for victims of the Bronx apartment fire, and she has done so again, this time to her former Middle School.
Cardi B joined Chancellor Banks on September 13th with a surprise visit to IS 232, her old alma mater. Middle Schoolers greeted her with echoing cheers, as the renowned rapper announced her donation of $100,000 to be put towards a potential after school program.

Cardi B shared on her Instagram that she had intended the visit for last year, but unfortunately couldn’t due to COVID regulations at the time.
Chancellor Banks tweeted, “Cardi B’s commitment of $100K for the arts will help the school’s kids soar to their highest heights. Thank you, Cardi!”
Cardi B shared a heartfelt Instagram post from her visit discussing her own growth while attending IS 232 and how it remains such a special place to her. “Like a lot of these kids i went thru so much while I was going to school here. Experiences that changed me forever and made me who I am today. I hope my donation can help create an amazing after school program that will help kids stay out the streets or a troubled home and most importantly allow them to learn something that they can take with them through LIFE,” wrote Cardi B in her caption.
As she shared her love for helping young kids in whatever capacity possible, Cardi B hinted at an upcoming project that has been in the works for two years, described as “super special to [her] heart.” Though we are unsure of what it might be, we can expect to find out soon enough.
