Chef Leighton Knowles is bringing a coffee shop specializing in cannabis-infused coffee to NYC. Where/when can you get your spiked morning joe? Here are all the details.
Chef Leighton Knowles has a reputation for cannabis-infused dinners food. On April 20 of this year (4/20 for those in the know), he showed the people of Glendale a legal way cannabis can be used to enhance food in a “Prohibition 420 Secret Dinner” event. Now, the self-professed “Culinary Ninja of Glendale” is opening a coffee shop where the coffee is laced with cannabis.
The cafe will be opening up in the front of Secret Garden Flower Shop (64-02 Myrtle Avenue) in Glendale, Queens, in late August or September. What is he calling his new venture? The “Flower Power Coffee House” of course.
How does Knowles get away with infusing Cannabis into his cooking? The secret is CBD, or cannabidiol as it is known. CBD comes from a part of the plant that reportedly relieves anxiety and pain but does not get users high. Therefore, his food doesn’t contain THC.
Whereas most of Flower Powers menu will be regular coffee shop favorites there will be one brew infused with CBD. Knowles also plans on hosting events monthly to educate people on the cannabidiol of CBD.
The cafe in Glendale will still double as a flower shop, and every month, Knowles plans to host events to teach people more about what CBD is and the benefits, and if the café is a success, the chef is planning to expand the venture throughout the city. According to ny.eater, he is already eyeing spaces in Bushwick.
