Listen to beautiful string renditions of your favorite femme powerhouse hits at this new concert series.
Fever’s enchanting “Candlelight” concerts whisk New Yorkers away with magnificent classical music performances surrounded by hundreds of flickering candles. And their newest series highlights the work of powerful femme figures including queer and BIPOC artists.
Lotus Chamber Music Collective — an all-female string quartet that works to catapult the brilliant voices of historically marginalized peoples to the forefront of the cultural landscape — will allow you to bask in the work of the most talented femme, queer and BIPOC artists of our time.
Hear your favorite music from female powerhouses on strings, from Jolene by Dolly Parton to Natural Woman by Carole King/Aretha Franklin to Proud Mary by Tina Turner. You’ll also hear pieces from some of the first female composers like Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and queer composers like Henrieëtte Bosmans.
Featured works also include Swing Low, Sweet Chariot by Florence B. Price, the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and to have a composition played by a major orchestra.
Lotus Chamber Music Collective says: “The chosen program works to reflect the inherent diversity of powerful of femme figures and features queer and BIPOC artists who transform our industry and reflect our voices.”
