When disaster strikes abroad, there are typically two ways to react: roll up your sleeves and help or look the other way. And when it comes to the massive 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude double earthquakes in Venezuela, the world seems to have overwhelmingly chosen the first option since the ground first shook on June 24th. Now, NYC is stepping up to join this international wave of solidarity with a special musical initiative: a Candlelight concert at Sony Hall.
Organized by the live-entertainment platform Fever as part of a broader humanitarian relief effort, this is a special edition of the wildly popular Candlelight concerts. It’s taking place on July 28 at 7:30pm at the iconic Sony Hall, with the net proceeds from the box office going directly to various NGOs operating on the ground.
A special performance by Highline String Quartet, with donations to Bambi International Foundation
Bringing the sheet music to life is the Highline String Quartet, who will be performing pro bono to maximize the funds raised for the cause.
When it comes to the financials, Fever legally commits to making a subsequent corporate donation equivalent to 100% of the net proceeds of the concert (defined as the ticket purchase price minus applicable local taxes and payment processing fees) directly to our allied local foundations, specifically to Bambi International Foundation.
This charity provides safe housing, daily care, food, medical support, education, and family services for vulnerable children and families. In the aftermath of the earthquake, its work has become especially critical, providing shelter, stability, and long-term support to displaced families and children who have lost their parents or have been separated from their loved ones as a result of the disaster.
From Coldplay to Luis Silva: A custom-tailored setlist
Running for 60 minutes, the concert takes the audience on a journey through traditional Venezuelan folklore, featuring beloved anthems like Alma Llanera and Venezuela. But that’s not all. You’ll also hear globally recognized (and universally loved) anthems of hope, including Elton John’s Imagine and Coldplay’s Viva la Vida.
Beyond raising as much money as possible for humanitarian relief, the goal of this concert is to bring people together. That means it’s not just a space for Venezuelans looking to connect with their roots right here in NYC, but for absolutely anyone who wants to pitch in and help mitigate this humanitarian crisis.
New York isn’t the only city hosting these shows, either. Cities all over the globe—including Madrid, Barcelona, Bogotá, Miami, Santiago de Chile, and Buenos Aires—are also turning live music into a lifeline of support for the victims of the disaster in Venezuela.
