Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons
The Four Seasons is often hailed as the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi’s most recognized work and is a Candlelight concert favorite.
The group of violin concerti were composed to represent each season of the year, bringing to life the sounds of nature through musical expression. Vivaldi also published his work with accompanying sonnets describing each season and corresponding with each movement.
At the time of The Four Seasons’ publication, Vivaldi’s approach was revolutionary. The Four Seasons ultimately paved the way for what’s now known as “program music,” or music that follows a narrative.
The Highline String Quartet’s November 10 rendition of The Four Seasons certainly did not disappoint, and beautifully captured Vivaldi’s compositional masterpiece against an unforgettable backdrop of thousands of candles.
Didn’t make it to November 10’s record-breaking Candlelight concert? Don’t worry – you’ll have a chance to experience another performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Church of the Heavenly Rest on December 14, powered by Duracell.
