New Yorkers, it’s time to touch grass–literally.
Bryant Park is celebrating Earth Day in the most NYC way possible: by officially reopening its iconic green lawn for the first time this spring season. As of 11 am today, Thursday, April 23, the lush Midtown oasis is back in action–ready for picnic blankets, sunbathing sessions, and afternoons that somehow turn into full park hangs.
And here’s the kicker: this marks the earliest the Bryant Park lawn has ever opened, debuting about two weeks ahead of its usual schedule.
Translation: two extra weeks of sprawling out on the grass, snacking with friends, and soaking up that long-awaited spring sunshine.

If you’ve never fully taken advantage of the lawn, consider this your sign. The space is one of Manhattan’s most coveted warm weather spots, transforming from a winter skating rink into a vibrant green escape right in the middle of Midtown.
Think: wide open grass (rare in NYC), skyline views, and just enough buzz to make people watching a full blown sport. You can bring your own picnic or grab bites nearby, and if you’re feeling studious, swing by the park’s beloved Reading Room for a free book to flip through while you lounge.
But the lawn isn’t just for lazy afternoons–it’s also the backdrop for one of the city’s best summer traditions.
Bryant Park’s Picnic Performances series returns May 28, bringing a full season of free outdoor concerts, opera, dance, and more right onto the grass. From jazz and classical to indie and global music, the lineup turns your casual picnic into a front-row seat to world-class performances–no tickets required!

And that’s just the start of what’s shaping up to be another stacked NYC summer. Between free concerts, outdoor movies, and can’t-miss festivals popping up across the city, your calendar is about to fill up fast.
For now though? The assignment is simple: grab a blanket, call a friend, and go claim your patch of grass. Spring in NYC has officially arrived.
