Excellent news for readers and bball fans: a limited-edition Brooklyn Public Library card is about to drop, and it celebrates the New York Liberty’s massive success during the 2024 season.
Needless to say, last year was one for the books: the WNBA team won its first-ever championship, Ellie the Elephant stole hearts everywhere, and love for the sport brought the entire city together. Why not keep the celebration going?

We don’t need to remind you about all of the free things to do with a Brooklyn Public Library card, and these babies are all the more enticing. Expect a card with the team’s trophy and iconic blue signage, and one with Ellie and the team’s trophy, naturally.
How to get a New York Liberty Brooklyn Public Library Card
The Liberty and Brooklyn Basketball-themed library cards will be available at all branches of the Brooklyn Public Library beginning Monday, June 2nd. You’ll have to hurry, though: only 100,000 are available, and you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to claim one for yourself.
Additionally, you’ll be able to celebrate the team and the BPL’s partnership during the game at Barclay’s Center on Sunday, June 1st. Book-themed activations will take place across the venue, the BPL Bookmobile will make a pitstop at the game, and you can snag Ellie bookmarks for your summer reading list. Speaking of Ellie, an avid reader herself, she has expertly curated a TBR list for all ages, including YA favorites from Angie Thomas, romance reads from Evelyn Lozada, and Brittney Griner’s memoir.
Another reason to venture to your nearest BPL branch? The Secret NYC Book Club. Each month, the Secret team and our community of readers on Fable discuss a new novel and all of the interesting plot points. This June, we’ll be reading V.E. Schwab’s new novel, Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, which releases on Tuesday, June 10th.
So: when are you going to snag your New York Liberty card? And, we can’t help but wonder: will the Knicks get the same treatment? (Our guide to ECF watch parties will keep you entertained in the meantime.)
