Just a few months after Coney Island’s bicentennial comes the Brooklyn Museum’s 200th birthday! Before becoming the world-renowned institution that it is today, it actually was the borough’s first free circulating library. To celebrate its evolution and growth over the past two centuries, the Brooklyn Museum will host loads of festivities throughout this year, beginning in the fall. See them below:
Birthday Bash
October 5th, 2024: this event will celebrate “the Brooklyn way” with programming and events spotlighting the borough’s best.
The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition
October 4, 2024–January 26, 2025: Brooklyn artists will be exclusively honored in a group exhibition.
Reinstallation of American Art Galleries
Opening October 4, 2024: 400 objects will be showcased in a bold collection of American art.
Solid Gold
November 15, 2024–May 4, 2025: a deeper look at the fascinating and beloved material and element, gold, through showpieces and international loans.
Gifts of Art in Honor of the 200th
Opening February 28, 2025: recent acquisitions specifically for the 200-year celebration together in one unique exhibition.
Brooklyn Made
Opening February 28, 2025: this exhibition will showcase work made in Brooklyn dating from the 19th century to current day.
Building the Brooklyn Museum and Its Collection
Opening February 28, 2025: an exhibition specifically dedicated to the museum’s 200-year history.
Museum on Wheels
Pilot: July 2024, Launch: April 2025: a mobile experience bringing cultural programming to communities within Brooklyn.
