The City of Water Day is happening this Saturday. Don’t miss the opportunity to get on a beach that has been restricted to the public for years.
Located directly beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, the small sandy shore front will be hosting the annual Con Edison Cardboard Kayak Race in the morning on Saturday, July 14.
In recent years, there has been a push to officially open the beach space however many factors such as the cost, potential danger from waves, and of course, the fact that the river is highly contaminated and there is a very high stormwater-sewage overflow nearby have squashed that dream.
However, the City of Water Day (now in it’s 11th year) and the Con Ed Kayak Race will offer New Yorkers a chance to get down to the beach for a day. The goal of this event is to raise awareness about the recreational opportunities available in and around the New York Harbor and it’s waterways. Other events will be taking place during the day and you can check out the full schedule here.
