Mother Nature is finally gifting us with spring weather, so now’s the time to consult the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Cherry Blossoms map to enjoy the season in all of her glory.
If you’re particularly invested in the blush-pink blooms, there’s no better place to venture than the Brooklyn attraction. Not only is it home to gorgeous scenery, but traditional events focused on the flowers and the culture, including Hanami Nights, dance performances, and family activities.
We’ll admit, you have to be quick when tracking cherry blossoms bloom in NYC, but once you start monitoring the petals’ progress with BBG’s interactive map, you can plan your outing accordingly.

So, how does the feature work? Allow us to get you up to speed. Visit the cherry watch map for an aerial view of the garden and corresponding stages of the florals:
- Pre-bloom
- First-bloom
- Peak bloom
- Post-peak bloom
You’ll notice the location of the cherry blossoms are represented by small circles. When you hover above them, you’ll be prompted to a page about the specific type of cherry blossoms in that area, including:
- Prunus pendula ‘Pendula Rosea’
- Prunus ‘Accolade’
- Prunus ‘Hata-zakura’
- Prunus ‘Ojochin’
In total, there are 26 cherry blossom species at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and at the time of publication, they’re all in the first bloom or peak bloom phase. That means it is your time to act — you wouldn’t want to miss any of the gorgeous scenes! According to the beloved attraction, keep an eye on social pages for “peak bloom,” and news about BBG’s entire flowering cherry collection, as they can all bloom at different times.
Given the polar vortex weather we experienced this winter, we assumed that cherry blossom season would be delayed in NYC, but thankfully, we’ve reached springtime at last.
Be sure to consult this handy map — as well as the Central Park cherry blossom tracker — to learn more about the adorable floral’s arrival this season!
