With the exception of some states who allow parentally chaperoned drinking, the National Minimum Drinking Age Act bans under 21s from buying or consuming alcohol in public. One Brooklyn bar doesn’t think that is quite far enough and are raising their weekend drinking age to over 25.
DNAinfo reported that Phil’s Crummy Corner, on Columbia St, Brooklyn, will only serve alcohol to patrons 25 and older on weekend nights to fight off the hordes of annoying, drunken young people.
The bar, which doubles as a family restaurant, acknowledges that the seemingly endless stream of complaints from it’s residential neighbors about rowdy crowds at night are caused by their younger clientele. One resident went as far to say, “you will be shocked about the number of conversations you can hear from my bed, […] They’re animals. Friday and Saturday night, it’s like animal town.”
The bar did say that they would make exceptions for younger patrons that are known to the establishments staff, but this move could spark a trend in the city.
