New York City is known as one of the most expensive cities in the country, just under San Francisco (and how dare they be #1!). But if you know how to do it, you can easily have an awesome day under $20. Here’s what you can do in the good ol’ borough of Brooklyn on a $20
budget and have a great time.
Check out Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park.
Price: Free!
Head to the park all summer for some awesome live music and concerts. Most of the shows are free, but just don’t get caught with an open container of alcohol, because that might get you a fine you don’t want to pay for!
Go Dancing at House of Yes.
Price: Often Free, or minimal cover charge.
The House of Yes is a super awesome underground dance hall on Bushwick. Sometimes it’s got a 90s night, sometimes it’s got what they call “sensual theater.” Whatever you are into, House of Yes always has something interesting going on, and for less than a $20 bill.
Target Saturdays at Brooklyn Museum of Art.
Price: Free! The first Saturday of every
The first Saturday of every month, Target hosts a free day of admission at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Exhibits are always changing, so worth checking out.
Play Bocce at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Price: Free!
Brooklyn Bridge Park is a great place to pick up a free game of bocce, or even basketball if that’s your thing. It’s a beautiful view of downtown Manhattan from here. Pack a lunch and you’re all set.
Wander Brooklyn Flea.
Price: $20 or less.
The Brooklyn Flea is an open air market in the summer and held indoors during the winter, and always going on. Spend as much or as little as you want, but you’ll find just checking out all the weird and interesting goods will be worth it.
