With the weather outside finally warming up a bit the yearning for spring is at an all time high, and as the days turn into weeks and April inches closer and closer that means that, in turn, Earth Day is approaching. As always, Earth Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22nd, and beyond the closing of streets and potential free Citi Bike rides (more info to come on if this is happening again this year), NYC is once again celebrating sustainability with a free outdoor concert!
For the fourth year in a row, Times Square Alliance is partnering with the Broadway Green Alliance to bring Broadway stars together for the annual Broadway Celebrates Earth Day. Taking place in Times Square’s Pedestrian Plaza, the free outdoor concert will feature live performances from Broadway stars including:
- Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley (Stars in the House)
- Tony Award Winner Shaina Taub (Suffs)
- Tony Award Nominee Stark Sands (Kinky Boots)
- Grammy Award nominee Merle Dandridge (Hadestown)
- and many more!

Alongside show-stopping headliners, performances will also be put on by 75+ students from the tri-state area, and theatre-makers and environmental leaders–including those from Materials for the Arts, HeadCount, Final Strike Collaborative, and 2030orBust–will also be on site to teach audiences how to unite and advocate for a healthier, just, and more sustainable future for all.
Can’t make it to the concert? Don’t fret–fans can tune in from around the world through the livestream hosted by Stars in the House. Molly Braverman, Director of the Broadway Green Alliance, stated:
At a time when environmental progress is being rolled back, hope can feel difficult to come by—but our community continues to rise, turning frustration into action. This year, the concert embraces the theme of Active Hope, a reminder that through action, we create the hope we need to keep driving progress forward.
