Subway and bus fares aren’t the only things increasing in 2025; motorists who use Port Authority bridges and tunnels connecting New York and New Jersey will unfortunately be shelling out more cash in the new year as well.
As posted on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s website, new toll rates are set to go into effect on January 5th, 2025. The new rates will apply to the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington, Bayonne, and Goethals bridges, and the Outerbridge Crossing.
Currently, most motorists entering NYC during peak hours fork over $15.38 with their E-ZPass, though once the new toll rates go into effect they’ll be paying 68 cents more for a total of $16.06. Motorists without an E-ZPass who pay tolls via mail will have to shell out $18.31.
Peak hours are as follows:
- Weekdays: 6 – 10am, 4 – 8pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 11am – 9pm
To clarify, tolls are only collected when entering New York, not when entering New Jersey, and all Port Authority crossings are cashless and no longer accept cash toll payments. E-ZPass plan descriptions, eligibility, and enrollment information can be found here.
Moreover, these increased bridge and tunnel tolls go into effect the same day NYC’s Congestion Pricing Program does.
