Boop! The Betty Boop Musical is readying its Broadway debut next spring, bringing a wildly successful production directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell (who won a Tony Award for Kinky Boots).
The musical first debuted back in Chicago last year, starring Jasmine Amy Roger as the main lead, however Broadway’s edition of the cast has yet to be revealed.
“Creating BOOP! with David, Susan and Bob and premiering in Chicago last holiday season was a gift to all of us and our entire family,” said Mitchell in a press release. “I can’t wait to bring Betty home to Broadway next Spring.”
Betty Boop’s Broadway debut will follow the cartoon-character-come-to-life and her dream to take a day off from being a celebrity in her black-and-white world…which ends up turning into a frolicking adventure of color, music, and love throughout New York City!
Alongside Mitchell’s impressive resume, it’ll feature other renowned names in the credits, including music from by Grammy winner David Foster, lyrics by Susan Birkenhead (Working, Jelly’s Last Jam), and a book by Bob Martin.
As of now, it hasn’t been announced which exact theater will get the title, but we do know it will be one of the 17 theaters owned by the Shuber Organization.
Tickets aren’t on sale quite yet but you can stay up to date with more announcements as they become available here!
