If you’re more of a “headphones on” rather than “crack open a book,” kind of reader, this one’s for you: this May, Audible is bringing its Audible Story House to NYC–the world’s first-ever “bookless bookstore” devoted entirely to immersive audio storytelling.
Described as a “community hub and listening lounge,” Audible Story House flips the traditional bookstore experience on its head–no stacks, no pages, just sound.
Rather than floor-to-ceiling shelves, the three-floor space is packed with interactive ways to listen, explore, and unwind, including:
- Story “tiles” visitors can tap to sample audiobooks
- Seven distinct listening rooms outfitted with Sony headphones and Dolby Atmos surround sound
- A pop-up café from Brooklyn favorite Land to Sea
- And more immersive surprises throughout the space
Beyond just listening, the month-long pop-up is leaning all the way into the experience factor. Expect a rotating lineup of programming–from sound baths and silent book clubs to author talks and hands-on workshops with Happy Medium.

Some events are first come, first served, while others require RSVPs or tickets–so you’ll want to plan ahead if something catches your eye ear. You can check out the full calendar online before you go.
