When you think about your local go-to tattoo parlor, you pretty much know what to expect ambiance-wise.
A lot of velvet or leather, busy walls, a coffee table strewn with binders filled with past work, and the open space shared between the resident artists with buzzing coming from each corner of the room.
Atelier Eva is a specialty tattoo studio and lifestyle experience created by Turkish artist Eva Karabudak, a world-renowned artist who has tattooed the likes of Sam Smith, SZA, and Joe Jonas. Her style transcends traditional tattooing and is more evocative of fine art- her expertise is internationally acclaimed, pushing public opinion of the tattoo industry forward by presenting works that exemplify refined beauty, elegance, and sophistication — a theme that carries over into the decor of the shop.
“Our primary objective was to create a serene environment because receiving a tattoo can be a stressful experience,” Eva said in an interview with Dezeen.
With an incredibly calming aura complete with relaxing incense, music, and beautiful furniture, Atelier Eva has become synonymous with a forward-thinking tattoo culture that connects with people from all walks of life.
While planning her design process, Eva set out to create a neutral space with concrete and glass surfaces. The furnishings are done in a palette of charcoal grey and eggshell white – a way calmer aesthetic than we’re used to seeing in your everyday tattooing space.
“We were very careful to avoid any glossy finishes, to remain approachable and down-to-earth,” said Karabudak.
This innovative brand, founded in 2020, is home to 20 artists at both shops who come from a diverse array of backgrounds and specialties, including fine line, hand-poke, realism, landscape, fine art, anime, graffiti, and pop culture tattoos.
Atelier Eva is based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with two shops at 29 Havemeyer St. and 59 Grand St.
