Another long-standing New York City classic is not reopening along with the rest of the city.
The highly regarded seafood restaurant, Aquagrill, is permanently closed, according to a recent report by Eater. The 20-year old SoHo establishment was long considered one of the city’s go-to dining destinations for seafood, with an oyster bar that featured 25 varieties daily. But when the city went into PAUSE at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Aquagrill closed its doors along many others.
However, according to the report, sources told Eater that the lease was about to expire and the owners would not be renewing it. It goes on to claim that they’ve also “been quietly selling the restaurant’s equipment to other restaurants and chefs.”
Though these reports have not been directly confirmed, the restaurant at 210 Spring Street would not be the first to choose closing at this time. Many restaurants, including nearby SoHo spot Lucky Strike and the legendary Gem Spa in the East Village, have chosen to end their lease due to costs and new restrictions.
