Summer is (unofficially) over, which means it’s time for all the fall activities! Which luckily are all social-distancing savvy.
And though there’s so much to do (pumpkins! changing leaves! cider!), today we’re tackling one of the best: apple picking. And have we found the perfect place for it.
Fishkill Farms is located right in the heart of the Hudson Valley of New York, and boasts tons of farm-fresh produce along with plenty of apple and pumpkin picking, and a cider mill on-site for bubbly fall sips.
The apple orchard is 270 acres, plus vegetable farms, and is in East Fishkill, New York. It’s been run by the same family for over 100 years ,and is all organic and eco-certified! Of course most of the experience lies in actually picking your own produce, but they do have stands at the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket in Brooklyn so you can get a taste of the farm right here if you don’t want to make the trek up.
Right now, along with apples of course, you can also pick your own pears, raspberries, peppers and more! U-pick is open 9am – 4:45pm Tuesday – Sunday by reservation only. They estimate that pumpkins will be available to pick as of Sept. 19.
It also has the most incredible views of the Catskills Mountains:
The cider flights include five 2-oz. pours of their estate grown and fermented Treasury Cider and one cheese and charcuterie board. You do have to make a reservation in advance on their website here.
Located at 9 Fishkill Farm Road in Hopewell JCT, NY, it’s about an hour and a half drive from midtown Manhattan. As for public transportation, it’s a little bit trickier but can still be done: you can take the Metro North Hudson Line to Beacon, and then take a 20 minute cab or Uber ride (which split between a group shouldn’t be too bad).
