“For the Win: Objects of Sports Excellence” is now open on the Upper West Side, showcasing more than 70 championship rings, Olympic medals, and historic trophies spanning nearly 150 years of sports dominance.
You can finally get an in-person look at absolute treasures from sports royalty like Kevin Durant, Jesse Owens, and our very own New York Liberty.
Here are more details on how to check it out right now.
A glittering collection of sports history
It makes total sense that this massive exhibit is housed in the Melissa and Keith Meister Gallery right inside the museum’s famous Halls of Gems and Minerals.
Visitors are surrounded by serious ice and historic gold.
Guest curator Vikki Tobak teamed up with Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman to pull together an absolutely legendary lineup of artifacts.
The displays are broken down into epic themes that highlight everything from trailblazing athletes to the sheer craftsmanship behind the bling.
You get a breathtaking look at Jesse Owens’s historic 1936 Olympic gold medal from Berlin alongside Kevin Durant’s 2024 Olympic gold medal that actually contains iron from the Eiffel Tower.

Celebrating New York City’s biggest wins
Local pride takes center stage in a huge way as well.
The exhibit features a dedicated New York City section showcasing some of the most celebrated moments in our hometown sports history.
Fans can marvel at the New York Liberty’s stunning 2024 WNBA championship trophy right alongside superstar Breanna Stewart’s gorgeous championship ring.
The local love does not stop there either.
The collection also boasts a Babe Ruth Crown gifted to Yankees legend Yogi Berra, a diamond-studded 2008 Super Bowl ring from Giants defensive end Justin Tuck, and a unique basketball-shaped gold fob given to Red Holzman for leading the Knicks to their last NBA championship back in 1973.
Seems pretty fitting right about now (Let’s Go Knicks!).
Kicking off the 2026 FIFA World Cup
This spectacular exhibit is just the beginning of a massive citywide celebration as the NY and NJ area prepares to host the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup in just 10 days.
Following the opening of the exhibit in May, AMNH also debuted an all-ages interactive play space called Goal Zone where you can totally test out your own soccer skills.
The excitement ramps up even more this month.
Starting June 11, the museum will transform into the ultimate fan hub.
They are hosting official World Cup watch parties right inside their iconic galleries and theaters.
This means you can gather with fans from all over the globe to experience the tournament in one of the most famous museums on the planet.
