Adding to the ongoing list of musicals we can’t wait to see — from a musical version of The Notebook with songs by Ingrid Michaelson to a stage adaptation of Disney’s Coco — comes the Alicia Keys-inspired show titled Hell’s Kitchen,
Following the story of “a strong, stubborn girl with a rebellious streak” named Ali, the coming-of-age musical is set in ’90s Hell’s Kitchen — the very neighborhood Keys grew up in. The show began previews — already met with 300+ 5-star reviews — on March 29 and will have its official Broadway opening on April 20, 2024.
The cast includes Maleah Joi Moon as Ali (the lead); Shoshana Bean as Jersey (Ali’s mother); Brandon Victor Dixon as Davis (Ali’s father); Chris Lee as Knuck (Ali’s love interest); and Kecia Lewis as Miss Liza Jane (her piano teacher). As for choreography, Camille A. Brown will take the lead alongside the musical direction of Adam Blackstone and Erskine Hawkins. Michael Greif—known for his work on Rent, Next to Normal, and Dear Evan Hansen—will be the official director of the musical.
Of course, the score features music from the 15-time Grammy award-winning singer herself, including hits like Fallin’, If I Ain’t Got You, Girl on Fire, and Empire State of Mind. Keys even penned new songs for the musical like Seventeen and Kaleidoscope, which was just released last month!
And, the music video will premiere right in Times Square on Friday, April 12 at 12:05, 1:05 and 2:05 p.m. on the TSX Digital Billboard. Psst: there may even be some special members of the show in attendance…
