Adding to the ongoing list of musicals we can’t wait to see, from a Britney-inspired production to a stage adaptation of Disney’s Coco, comes an Alicia Keys-inspired show titled Hell’s Kitchen, reports by Broadway World.
According to a casting notice, a workshop of the production will be a part of NYC’s Shakespeare Festival in the spring through the Public Theater.
Production dates are set to be sometime between May 24 and June 18, 2023, shared Deadline.
Apparently, the storyline will be set in Hell’s Kitchen (the same neighborhood Alicia Keys grew up in) during the 90s. It will follow “a strong, stubborn girl with a rebellious streak” named Ali.
The score will feature music from the 15-time Grammy award-winning singer herself, informs Broadway World. As for choreography, Camille A. Brown will take the lead alongside the musical direction of Adam Blackstone and Erskine Hawkins. Michael Greif—known for his work on Rent, Next to Normal, and Dear Evan Hansen—will be the official director of the musical.
Some characters have already been casted including: Ali (the lead); Jersey (Ali’s mother); Davis (Ali’s father); Knuck (Ali’s love interest); Miss Liza Jane (her piano teacher); and two ensemble roles.
However, auditions will still be held for any remaining roles on Friday, February 17, 2023. You can learn more about the auditions here.
