The weather is finally warming up in NYC, which means it’s time to get your outdoor activities in check. Communal sports leagues are a great way to get some exercise, make friends and, frankly, have another thing to do after work (besides sitting at a bar).
Enter NYC Footy, which was started by Brooklyn friends over 15 years ago to make pick-up soccer more organized, but still keep that casual, fun vibe. They offer coed/mixed NYC soccer leagues across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Westchester.
And the best part is you don’t even have to have experience! Their slogan “We’re competitive, but not ridiculous,” says it all. Of course, if you do want to relive your school soccer days, there’s room for that. Experience levels range from beginner to advanced.

NYC Footy started in 2010, and since then has grown to become the nation’s largest adult soccer league. Current NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani was even a team player for 15 seasons, and talked about its mental health impact saying, “NYC Footy is cheaper than therapy!”
Our Secret NYC/Fever team even got to participate last year, and it was genuinely such a great way to let off some steam and bond with coworkers. So much so, we had to return again this year – *fingers crossed* we reach the finals.

There are still some spots left on their spring league — which is kicking off through mid-April (some have started earlier, but it’s not too late to join!). NYC leagues with spots still left include:
- Murray Playground, LIC
- Peter’s Field, Gramercy
- Grover Cleveland Playground, Ridgewood
- James J Walker Field, West Village

And for our friends in Miami and Dallas, Footy has also expanded to your cities! Check out Dallas here and Miami here.
With the U.S. partially hosting the FIFA World Cup later this year, it’s the perfect time to grab a soccer ball and be part of the fun.
