New Yorkers know the TCS New York City Marathon brings unmatched energy to the streets. Now, a new report shows it also brings a historic financial boost.
According to the Marathons 50 report by Brand Finance, the NYC marathon generated an estimated $857 million for the city in 2025.
A massive economic engine
This makes New York the absolute top performer globally for economic impact.
In total, the world’s top 50 marathons generated a staggering $6 billion for their host cities. The TCS-partnered races alone accounted for more than half of that impact.
It is a huge win for local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.
Running for a cause

The event is not just about the economy. It is a massive driver of community philanthropy. The top 50 races raised $434 million for charity worldwide.
TCS-partnered races were responsible for 73% of that charitable fundraising. The local impact is truly felt long after the last runner crosses the finish line.
A global running boom
The sport is growing rapidly across the globe. An estimated 520,000 people ran their first marathon in 2025.
About one in three runners said they were directly inspired by another runner. The marathon community continues to bring people together in a highly impactful way.
Technology meets the track
Race organizers are also looking directly to the future. The report notes that 37% of organizers already use AI tools.
They expect this technology to heavily impact how runners train and race in the coming years.
If you have ever considered lacing up your sneakers, there has never been a better time to join the movement.
