FiDi gym rats, it might be time to find a new spot for leg day.
Planet Fitness, the purple-and-yellow chain behind the “Judgement Free Zone,” is closing a handful of clubs across the country this year, and its Lower Manhattan location at 25 Broadway is one of them.
The Financial District gym appears on a list of 2026 closures compiled by Inc., right alongside locations in Florida, Indiana, Vermont and South Carolina.
It’s a small dent for a brand with nearly 3,000 clubs, but a big one if 25 Broadway was your go-to before (or after) the workday.
Here’s what we know as of now.
Which Planet Fitness locations are closing
So far, these five clubs have been confirmed as closing in 2026:
- New York, NY: 25 Broadway, in the Financial District
- Coral Springs, FL: 2101 N University Drive
- Marion, IN: 1129 N Baldwin Avenue
- South Burlington, VT: 530 Community Drive
- Mount Pleasant, SC: 601 Belle Station Boulevard (temporarily closed)
The NYC club sits inside 25 Broadway, the landmark Cunard Building just steps from Bowling Green and the Charging Bull.
Planet Fitness hasn’t publicly shared why these specific clubs are closing. In general, gyms close for reasons like expiring leases, changes at a shopping center or a newer location opening nearby, one attorney told Inc.
Why Planet Fitness is shaking things up
The closures come during a bit of a slow patch for the gym giant. The company said 2026 got off to a “slower-than-expected start” when it comes to adding new members, TheStreet reports.
To win people back, Planet Fitness has hit pause on a planned price hike for its Black Card membership while it reviews pricing. It’s also testing a $10 Classic Card promo nationwide later this quarter, down from the usual $15.
There’s a bright spot, though: Gen Z is now the chain’s fastest-growing group of members. Its free High School Summer Pass racked up 12 million workouts this year alone.
What 25 Broadway members should do now
If you had a membership at 25 Broadway, here’s how to keep your routine going:
- Find your next club: use the Planet Fitness club finder to see the closest Manhattan locations.
- Check your membership type: Black Card members can already work out at any Planet Fitness, so you can just switch spots.
- Ask about transferring: Classic Card members should reach out to Planet Fitness about moving their home club so they’re not paying for a gym they can’t use.
- Keep an eye on billing: make sure your monthly charges and annual fee are tied to an active club.
