What happens when the Housewives trade their confessionals for the Off-Broadway stage? Several familiar faces from the Real Housewives franchise, including Lisa Rinna, Phaedra Parks and Carole Radziwill are set to star in a new revival of Neil Simon’s Rumors on the Newman Mills Theater stage at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.
The news was just announced on October 27, with Deadline reporting the revival will run for a limited 14 week engagement in the new year from January 9 through April 21. The revival will feature two separate runs, each starring a different cast of Housewives.
Who else is in on the drama?
According to an exclusive report in Variety, the production will feature two distinct casts during its run. From January 9 through February 28, the cast will include Lisa Rinna as ‘Chris’, Phaedra Parks as ‘Claire’, Stacey Rusch as ‘Cookie’ and Dolores Catania as ‘Cassie’.
They’ll be followed by Cynthia Bailey as ‘Chris’, Eileen Davidson as ‘Claire’, Carole Radziwill as ‘Cookie’, and Candiace Dillard-Bassett as ‘Cassie’ from March 2 through April 21.
This will be a first time debut for all the Housewives on Broadway besides RHOBH alum Lisa Rinna, who famously took centerstage as Roxie Hart in Chicago in 2007.
So what’s it actually about?
First staged on Broadway in 1988, Rumors centers on a seemingly glamorous dinner party that quickly spirals into chaos. Seem familiar? Sounds like every Real Housewives gathering ever.
When guests arrive, at a wealthy New York home, they’re met with a mysterious situation involving their host, his missing wife and impending police investigation.
Sounds like this will set the stage for some high camp moments, controlled chaos and frantic cover-ups mixed in with classic Neil Simon comedy.
The show’s original run had an impressive ensemble cast as well: Christine Baranski, Jessica Walter and Joyce Van Patten. Baranski even won the 1989 Tony Award for Best Performance for a Featured Actress in a Play for her portrayal of ‘Chris’.
