Brooklyn’s Trader Joe’s fans have a new reason to celebrate!
The beloved grocery chain is officially coming to Bay Ridge, bringing its cult-favorite snacks, affordable flowers, and freezer-aisle finds to a long-vacant stretch of 86th Street.
The new store will anchor Century Marketplace, a highly anticipated retail development taking shape at the former Century 21 department store site.
After years of uncertainty surrounding the property, this long-awaited addition is finally giving the neighborhood something fresh to look forward to — though shoppers will have to wait a little longer for an opening date.
What to Know About the New Store and Development
The news was confirmed by local Council Member Kayla Santosuosso in a video update posted on October 11, 2026, putting an end to months of neighborhood speculation.
- The Location: The store will anchor Century Marketplace, located at the former Century 21 department store on 86th Street—a massive footprint that has remained vacant since the iconic department store closed its doors in 2020.
- The Deal & Development: The property was acquired for $47.5 million in 2025 by developers MCB Real Estate and Osiris Ventures. Plans call for approximately 95,000 square feet of total retail space, including a striking two-story building featuring an interior atrium facing 86th Street.
- Neighborhood Impact: Community leaders and local store owners expect the flagship anchor tenant to serve as a major economic driver. By attracting foot traffic back to 86th Street, the development is poised to boost nearby independent retail stores, boutiques, and diverse dining options along Third and Fifth Avenues.
While enthusiasm for the announcement is high, an official opening date has not yet been announced.
The addition of the Bay Ridge store ensures that South Brooklyn residents will finally have a local Trader Joe’s of their own without having to travel north across the borough.
