Is there anything scarier than subway service changes throwing a wrench into your party plans?
Riding the longest subway line in New York City is already a test of endurance, but over Halloween weekend, the iconic 32-mile A train is throwing a massive wrench into party plans across the city.
According to the MTA’s planned service changes page, starting Friday, October 30, Inwood-bound A trains will completely bypass five major stations across Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan—including High St, Fulton St, Chambers St, Canal St, and Spring St. Combined with local shifts on the C and E lines, anyone heading into Greenwich Village for the city’s world-famous Village Halloween Parade will face major detours.
If you don’t want your night out to turn into a transit nightmare, here is everything you need to know about the Halloween weekend MTA disruptions.

⚠️ Key Subway Outages & Service Changes (Oct 30 – Nov 2)
1. Inwood-Bound A Train Reroute

- Skipped Stations: High St, Fulton St, Chambers St, Canal St, and Spring St.
- Travel Alternatives:
- For High St: Walk to the nearby York St (F) station instead.
- For Fulton St: Take the F train and transfer at Delancey St-Essex St to the J, or use the World Trade Center (E) station via a transfer at West 4th St.
- For Chambers St, Canal St, and Spring St: Transfer to the E or downtown A train at West 4th St.
2. C Line Rerouted via Sixth Avenue On Saturday, Oct 31, and Sunday, Nov 1 (Days and Evenings), C service will be rerouted in both directions between Jay St-MetroTech and 59 St-Columbus Circle.
- How It Runs:

- Euclid Av-bound (downtown) C trains: Run via the A line from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq, and via the F line to Jay St-MetroTech.

3. Local Drops & Brooklyn Skips on the A, C, and E Lines
- E Line Local Shifts: Downtown E trains will run local from 125th St to Canal St all day Saturday and Sunday, while uptown E trains will make local stops at 23rd St and 50th St.
- Brooklyn C Local Skips: Queens-bound/Euclid Av-bound C local trains will skip Lafayette Av, Clinton-Washington Avs, Franklin Av, and Kingston-Throop Avs on overnight runs and throughout the weekend. Ride to Nostrand Av or Utica Av and backride on a Manhattan-bound train.
🌌 Other Major Weekend Nightlife Outages
- The L Train Brooklyn Cutoff: No L train service between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy from Saturday at 3:30 AM through Sunday at 10:00 PM (transfer to free shuttle buses).
- Upper Manhattan 1 Line Skips: Downtown 1 trains skip 125th St, 116th St-Columbia University, Cathedral Pkwy (110th St), and 103rd St overnight.
🎃 Halloween Night Survival Guide
- Village Halloween Parade Access: West 4th St and 14th St stations will experience heavy crowding. While Eighth Avenue A/C trains are altered uptown, downtown A and E trains are still serving Eighth Avenue stations (14th St, 23rd St, Penn Station, Port Authority). You can also use the 1, 2, or 3 trains along 7th Avenue or the F line along 6th Avenue as direct alternatives into Greenwich Village.
- Brooklyn-to-Manhattan Nightlife: With the A skipping Lower Manhattan hubs, switch to the F train at Jay St-MetroTech or use the N/R lines via Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
- Accessibility Note: MTA warns that several alternative routing options affect ADA-accessible stations. Passengers needing accessible travel should call 511 to plan their routes in advance.
