Navigating behavioral health care in the city just got a whole lot easier.
The Mamdani administration rolled out NYC Mental Health Connect, a brand-new digital database designed to help locals quickly find mental health and addiction support.
The searchable platform connects residents to more than 600 behavioral healthcare providers across all five boroughs.
Users can filter their search by specific symptoms, required service types, age, location, and accepted insurance.
Addressing a massive gap in care
The new initiative directly addresses alarming data from the city’s 2024 State of Mental Health report.
That survey revealed nearly half of adults struggling with mental health were not receiving counseling or medication.
Even worse, over 40% of untreated adults and 24% of teens reported that they simply did not know where to go for help.
“We operate within a healthcare system that is fragmented by nature and can be really difficult to navigate,” said Jorge Petit, executive deputy commissioner for mental hygiene at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, according to The Gothamist.
Free services, specialized support, and $5M in state funding
The platform serves a wide range of demographics, offering tailored resources for teens, parents, older adults with dementia, and individuals experiencing a first psychotic episode.

Beyond traditional therapy, it also links users to essential social safety nets like employment assistance and food stamps.
To keep options affordable, the database highlights providers offering free or sliding-scale services, alongside those accepting Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance.
While the tool primarily focuses on state-licensed programs and city-contracted non-profit clinics rather than private practices, it offers a crucial starting point.
