Spooky season is officially here. If you are looking for the ultimate fall thrill, we have the perfect weekend plan for you.
The Garden State just dropped the New Jersey Film Trails. It is a brand-new tourism platform that connects iconic movies with their real-life filming locations.
While they have a few seasonal guides, we are entirely focused on their Spooky Season Trail.
Dive into horror movie history
This interactive trail is custom-built for horror fans and thrill-seekers. It guides you through the exact spots where iconic nightmares were filmed.
You can explore the real-world backdrops of slasher classics like ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘The Amityville Horror’, and the recent hit ‘I Saw the TV Glow’. (And yes, even though the true Amityville story happened on Long Island, key scenes for the 1979 movie were shot right here in New Jersey!).

Grab a bite where the stars did
A road trip is nothing without good snacks. The trail recommends perfectly themed pit stops along your terrifying journey.
You can grab a hot coffee at the famous Blairstown Diner. If you need something heavier, order a legendary deep-fried “ripper” hot dog at Rutt’s Hut. You can also take a moody autumn stroll through the beautiful Sunken Garden at Georgian Court University.
Win a killer weekend getaway
Want to take things to the next level? You can actually enter to win the ultimate ‘Friday the 13th’ prize experience.
Starting October 5, 2026, fans can enter a special sweepstakes to win the Halloween trip of a lifetime.
One lucky winner will score a grand prize package featuring an overnight stay and a private Crystal Lake Tour at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. This is the actual, highly-restricted private filming location used in the original 1980 movie.
The prize also includes dining gift cards to the film trail stops and passes to Six Flags Great Adventure.
