The North Fork is about to look like someone turned the saturation all the way up!
This weekend, a farm in Jamesport is filling its fields with sunflowers, Honeycrisp apples, on-the-vine pumpkins, hayrides, live music, and enough golden-hour photo opportunities to make your camera roll deeply stressed.
The Sunflower Festival at Harbes Farms Jamesport returns for two days only on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20.
Bookmarking itself as one of the best early fall escapes, New Yorkers are invited to stroll beneath tall yellow blooms, fill a bag with crisp apples, wander through a corn maze, and end the day with a glass of North Fork wine as live music plays in the courtyard.
Here are all of the details and how you can still attend this weekend!
A golden fall weekend in Long Island wine country
Jamesport may be small, but it sits in the middle of one of New York’s most storied agricultural landscapes.
The hamlet is part of Long Island’s North Fork, a federally recognized American Viticultural Area that has grown into a major wine destination with more than 40 active wineries.
Just down the road, Jamesport Vineyards has been pouring locally grown wine since 1986, making it one of the North Fork’s oldest vineyards.
But this weekend, the biggest draw is not in a tasting room. It’s in the fields!
Harbes Farms’ Sunflower Festival turns its Jamesport property into a bright yellow stretch of late-summer color, where visitors can walk among the blooms, snap photos, and enjoy the very brief overlap when sunflower season meets peak early-fall farm fun.
Sunflowers, Honeycrisps, and a 9-acre pumpkin patch
Harbes has gone all in on the fall checklist.
Festival admission includes access to the farm’s sunflower fields, where a sunflower maze creates a maze-like path through the blooms, plus Honeycrisp apple picking, hayrides, jump pads, the Robin Hood Corn Maze, and entry to a sprawling nine-acre on-the-vine pumpkin patch.
That is a lot to fit into one day, but there are worse problems to have than choosing between a cider break, one more trip through the maze, or finding the exact pumpkin that will somehow become a front-stoop masterpiece.
The festival also brings free live music from 1 pm to 5 pm both days, food vendors, and wine tasting, so you can swap city noise for guitar strums, farm air, and a field of yellow petals moving in the September breeze.

Making it a full North Fork escape
Harbes Farms is about 100 miles from Midtown, so make it a full-day escape rather than a rushed there-and-back.
After the Sunflower Festival, stop at nearby Jamesport Vineyards for a tasting among the vines and a wood-fired lunch at its on-site restaurant, Little Oak Wood Fired Kitchen. The vineyard was founded in 1986 and is one of the North Fork’s oldest, just a few minutes from Harbes along Main Road. Reservations are strongly recommended on weekends.
For one last North Fork stop before the drive home, head to South Jamesport Beach for quiet Peconic Bay views, or swing by Main & Mill, a newer Jamesport tasting room inspired by old Hollywood and 1920s New York, for a glass of local wine.
The town is compact enough that sunflowers, apple picking, a vineyard lunch, and a sunset near the bay can all fit into one exceptionally autumnal Saturday!
