August in New York City carries a distinct, late summer magic. The dog days are in full swing, golden hour lingers just a little bit longer, and the city’s dining scene shows zero signs of cooling off.
Whether you’re seeking breezy outdoor spots or air-conditioned sanctuaries hiding the summer heat, this month’s debuts are already turning heads.
From quiet neighborhood gems to high-octane hotspots where tables are becoming a prized commodity, here are the new NYC bars and restaurants defining August—and the reservations you’ll want to snag before everyone else returns to the city.
Broome Restaurant and Bar – Now Open

SoHo’s newest French Mediterranean bistro and bar has officially opened its doors.
Nestled in one of Manhattan’s most remarkable hidden courtyards hidden behind a nearly 200 year old red brick façade, the restaurant is the first phase of boutique hotel Broome’s relaunch.
The menu is built around French technique and Mediterranean seasonality–think: starters like tuna tartare with labneh and cucumber consommé, mains like branzino with dill beurre blanc, and an olive oil chocolate cake with sea salt and crème fraîche to close.
Diners can also expect a cocktail program that includes the Garden Fizz, Yuzu Martini, and Spicy Blackberry Mezcal. Brunch service will follow in a later phase.
Elder – Now Open

Elder, a contemporary British-Indian chophouse located on the ground level of Henry Hall in Hudson Yards, just opened its doors to diners.
From Chef Sujan Sarkar, the restaurant is inspired by London’s iconic chophouses, pairing exceptional meats, seafood, and seasonal ingredients with the flavors, spices, and culinary influences of India.
Diners can expect a menu of prime cuts, pristine seafood, and peak season produce, complemented by housemade chutneys, layered spice blends, tandoor-roasted vegetables, and richly flavored sauces.
Dishes include a Quail Scotch Egg, English Pea & Fava Samosa, Beet & Celeriac Wellington, Tikka Masala Chicken Roulade, Tellicherry Peppercorn-Crusted Filet Mignon, and more, alongside a dessert menu with a full puddings section.
dokidoki – Now Open
dokidoki is East Williamsburg’s newest bar merging Japanese and Latin culture through drinks, music, and hospitality.
Evoking a traditional tachinomi (Japanese standing bar), the name “dokidoki” is a Japanese onomatopoeia that describes the feeling of a fast beating heart–a nod to the infectious energy of Latin music.
The curated, accessible menu features low-ABV drinks built around classic cocktails with a Japanese and Latin twist, alongside a rotating list of wines and sake.
Standouts include the Tropi Hai (yanagita mugi shochu, roasted barley tea, grapefruit, tamarind, cinnamon), Shibuya Cafecito (iichiko & aokage shochus, coffee, relajo tea, vanilla, whey) and Ichiki Tini (daiyama 24 imo shochu, cap corse blanc vermouth, pineapple, lemon verbena), all priced at $16.
Non-alcoholic offerings are also available, including the Rosie Perez cocktail (undone blanc sparkling wine, mango, genmaicha, shishito pepper), and local Good Time N/A Pils.
Recente – Now Open

Recente, a new coastal Italian restaurant and aperitivo bar, has opened its doors in the East Village.
The restaurant comes from Willem Hock and Lukas Canan, who spent nearly a decade behind the bars at some of NYC’s most influential cocktail spots, including Dante, Amor y Amargo, The Surf Lodge, and The Nines.
Chef Monty Koludrovic, former Executive Chef of Sydney’s Icebergs Dining Room & Bar, leads the culinary program as Culinary Consultant, bringing his “New World Italian” approach to a menu rooted in Italian tradition but influenced by the Australian coast and Asia-Pacific flavors.
Expect plenty of seafood, handmade pastas, and antipasti, alongside an elevated aperitivo program that moves from spritzes to low-intervention wines and ends with a “Discoteca” menu of ’90s-inspired cocktails. The indoor-outdoor space includes a 60-seat dining room and bar, 30-seat courtyard garden, and 16-seat sidewalk café, with weekend brunch set to launch in September.
LIBA – Now Open

The team behind beloved neighborhood restaurant 12 Chairs Café has opened LIBA, a new restaurant presenting a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine, executed through the precision of classical French technique, and shaped by global culinary influences.
Translated from the Hebrew word meaning “core,” LIBA is rooted in the belief that every memorable meal begins around the table.
At the heart of LIBA is a signature 800-degree brick oven, where many of the restaurant’s opening dishes are prepared in full view of guests, including the Brick Oven Bread ($12), made from a 48-hour fermented dough infused with coriander seeds and baked until golden before being served with LIBA’s signature olive oil “butter,” Egyptian dukkah and grilled hot peppers.
Additional dishes include Pickled Vegetables from My Mother-in-Law, paying homage to the diverse traditions of the Jewish table through an elegant assortment of house-made Uzbek tomatoes, Iraqi torshi and Ashkenazi dill pickles, The Tartlet de Tunis, transforming the classic Tunisian tuna sandwich into a single bite, layering bluefin tuna tartare with house-made harissa, preserved lemon and dehydrated Tassos olives inside a crisp phyllo shell, and the Steak Tartare Sando, nodding to the Japanese wagyu sando with toasted challah filled with beef tartare, mustard aioli, capers, chives, horseradish and sweet pickled mustard seeds.
Floradora – Opens August 27

The team behind Libertine, Chateau Royale, and Capitaine, will open Floradora in the West Village this August, a two-floor restaurant inspired by the city’s iconic gathering places.
The menu is comprised of a slew of nostalgic, craveable dishes with unexpected touches. Think: Spicy Vodka Garganelli, Oxtail Lasagna, 72-hour American Wagyu “Steak” Au Poivre, and Disco Fries.
A beverage program bringing a more playful approach to familiar classics complements the food, with cocktails such as the Giardiniera Gibson, Lychee Vesper, June Bug, and the namesake Floradora.
