1. Cemitério Woodlawn
O cemitério Woodlawn, no Bronx, é na verdade um marco histórico nacional e é o lar de muitas figuras proeminentes, como a lenda do jazz Duke Ellington e o autor Herman Melville. Ao caminhar pelo cemitério de 400 acres com mais de 300.000 almas, você se deparará com uma arquitetura deslumbrante, folhagens floridas e grandes monumentos, como o memorial do Titanic, o monumento a Nathan Piccirilli e muito mais.

2. Cemitério de Green-Wood

O cemitério de 478 acres é conhecido principalmente por sua paisagem pitoresca e mausoléus impressionantes… sem mencionar que é o local de descanso final de pessoas como Leonard Bernstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat e Horace Greeley.

3. Cemitério da Igreja Trinity
Esse cemitério é um dos mais exclusivos de Manhattan, pois fica bem no meio do centro da cidade! Ele fica bem no coração do FiDi e é o local de sepultamento de figuras notáveis, como Alexander Hamilton e outros veteranos da Guerra Revolucionária Americana. O Trinity Church Museum, que fica próximo a ela, também lança luz sobre as pessoas que ali jazem, por meio de uma série de artefatos e registros.

4. New York Marble Cemetery (Cemitério de Mármore de Nova York) e New York City Marble Cemetery (Cemitério de Mármore da Cidade de Nova York)
Esses dois cemitérios adjacentes no East Village datam de 1831, onde agora se encontram 258 sepulturas subterrâneas feitas de mármore de Tuckahoe. A parte mais interessante? Não há monumentos acima do solo, mas sim placas nas paredes do cemitério. É um dos lugares mais tranquilos da cidade.

5. Cemitério de Evergreens
Considerado um cemitério histórico em estilo “rural”, o The Evergreens Cemetery é o lar de mais de 532.000 pessoas enterradas. Isso inclui pessoas notáveis, como a lenda do sapateado Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, o pintor Martin Heade e o inventor da máquina de costura Elias Howe.

6. Cemitério de Gravesend
Lar de Lady Deborah Moody, a fundadora de Gravesend no Brooklyn, e de muitas outras pessoas, esse cemitério é o local de muitos veteranos da Guerra Revolucionária e da própria Moody. Foi listado como um local histórico em Nova York em 1980 e recebeu uma restauração em 2019.

7. Cemitério do Calvário
O Calvary Cemetery é um dos maiores do país e é o primeiro grande cemitério a ser estabelecido além da ilha de Manhattan pelos curadores da St. Patrick’s Cathral. É enorme e está dividido em quatro seções no Queens. Além de ser o local de sepultamento de pessoas como o artista Tony Bennett e os ex-prefeitos de Nova York Robert Wagner e Hugh Grant, o cemitério é lindo. Você encontrará uma impressionante arquitetura neogótica por toda parte, incluindo um enorme Monumento do Calvário.

8. Cemitério de Mount Olivet
Com o nome do Monte das Oliveiras de Jerusalém, esse cemitério em Queens é o local de sepultamento de muitos veteranos da Revolução Americana e suas famílias. Além disso, os verdes ondulados da área e a vista privilegiada do horizonte de Manhattan o tornam um dos mais bonitos da cidade.

Embora fique um pouco fora da cidade, o assombrado Cemitério Sleepy Hollow, no norte do estado de Nova York, vale a viagem de um dia no outono! Essa cidade do mundo real do Dia das Bruxas abriga um dos cemitérios mais assustadores, e o terreno de 90 acres está localizado exatamente onde o Cavaleiro Sem Cabeça costumava ficar; você pode até mesmo fazer passeios com lanternas pelo cemitério.
