Um dos bairros mais vibrantes do Brooklyn fica ao longo das avenidas Flatbush, Church e Nostrand, apelidado de “Little Caribbean”. É o lar da maior comunidade caribenha-americana-latina fora das Índias Ocidentais.
O bairro recebeu seu nome oficial em 2017 graças a Shelley Worrell, da caribBEING, uma organização cultural que amplia a comunidade e homenageia a diáspora caribenha em Nova York, liderando o movimento.

1. Allan’s Caribbean Bakery (Padaria Caribenha do Allan)
Essa padaria de propriedade da terceira geração vem alimentando o Brooklyn há mais de meio século. Foi fundada pelo casal Allan e Gloria, depois de ter superado o tamanho de seu veículo transformado em padaria, onde vendiam pães e bolos. A padaria ainda usa métodos e técnicas da velha escola, certificando-se de manter o legado de Allan. Com um extenso cardápio, os visitantes podem pedir de tudo, desde o Heavy Coconut Sweet Bread até o Caribbean Sponge Cake.

2. Lips Cafe
O Lips Cafe celebra a criatividade, o café e a cultura caribenha. Adorado por seus eventos de microfone aberto, desfiles de moda e eventos especiais, o Lips Cafe é “um lugar na comunidade onde as pessoas podem vir para progredir da maneira que puderem”, disse o proprietário Jamane Weekes.

3. Hibiscus Brew
A Hibiscus Brew desafiou as probabilidades quando foi inaugurada no verão de 2020. No entanto, em tempos difíceis, a Hibiscus Brew estava lá para servir a comunidade e, quase três anos depois, continua sendo a favorita do bairro para smoothies, café e muito mais.

4. Errol’s Caribbean Bakery
De pães de massa dura, pãezinhos e bolos de frutas a cabrito ao curry, rabo de boi, frango jerk e sopa de pé de galinha, a Errol’s é uma parada obrigatória para os melhores sabores do Caribe. A padaria está servindo o bairro há mais de 20 anos.

O único local em Nova York que serve Soup Joumou todos os dias, o ZANMI é um dos melhores restaurantes haitianos da cidade.
