Marcos Meconi has spent two decades working as a photographer and filmmaker. Now, he operates Greenpoint Glam, a local portraiture studio that recreates the distinct aesthetic of 1980s and 90s glamour shots and television infomercials.
The retro styling at the studio is executed with such precision that viewers frequently mistake the contemporary output for actual archival footage. Meconi regularly has to clarify to observers that the images and videos are a modern service rather than relics from thirty years ago.
Vintage Tech and Simpler Times
The studio space doubles as a physical tribute to Meconi’s personal connection with nostalgia. The shooting area is filled with genuine artifacts from the era, including a wall of vintage Apple desktop computers, stacked manuals, cassette tapes, and a neatly organized collection of classic action figures.
After years of participating in larger commercial projects, Meconi sought an outlet that felt more grounded. A friend noticed his extensive collection of retro items and suggested opening the set to the public. Meconi quickly realized the nostalgic environment offered clients something beyond a novelty photo shoot.
“I think that we romanticize the past maybe because we find the present to be a little confusing,” Meconi said. “Nostalgia gives you permission to go back to a time in your head where things were maybe simpler.”
Letting the Inner Child Play
The sessions are designed to be interactive, encouraging clients to pose with era-appropriate props. Subjects handle brightly colored corded telephones, stand behind large tropical plants, and lean on heavy computer monitors, recreating the slightly awkward charm of late 20th-century mall portraits.
For Meconi, the photo sessions are a way to create a safe environment for a client’s inner child to surface. He aims to make the entire process feel like unstructured play rather than a formal, stiff portrait sitting.
