After a few days of indulgence in our consumerist society, it’s time to give back to the community. Here are seven charities with incredible missions that you can donate to on Giving Tuesday:
1. Social Tees Animal Rescue
[Social Tees]Social Tees is a non-profit, no kill animal shelter that rescues animals from kill shelters all over the city and takes care of them until they can be adopted. They have adoptions every day from 3pm to 7 pm, including weekends.
2. Feal Good Foundation
[Kārlis Dambrāns/Flickr]This foundation provides financial assistance and benefits to first responders who were injured during the September 11th attack on the twin towers.
3. Robin Hood Foundation
[Robin Hood Foundation/Facebook]The Robin Hood Foundation is dedicated to fighting poverty in NYC. They partner with about 200 of the best poverty-fighting organizations across the city to accomplish their mission.
4. City Harvest
[City Harvest/Facebook]This charity aims to serve all of New York City’s hungry folks. They collect excess food from various sources around the city and deliver it to nearly 600 community food programs.
5. The Center
[The Center/Facebook]The Center provides resources and runs programs for the LGBT community in NYC. Their goal is to help everyone who walks through their doors obtain mental and physical wellness.
6. Coalition for the Homeless
[Coalition for the Homeless/Facebook]This charity works to end homelessness in New York City. They believe housing, food, and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society, and they implement cost-effective plans to achieve that ideal.
7. The Fortune Society
[The Fortune Society/Facebook]The Fortune Society is dedicated to helping prison inmates re-start their lives after incarceration, and and become successful, contributing members of society. The foundation also advocates for alternatives to incarceration, to reduce the prison population.
