Yoga is still trendy, but it has to keep changing and getting weirder in order to stay trendy. What good is doing yoga if you don’t have thousands of people walking by to watch how fit you are? Or if you don’t have spectacular views to enjoy upside down while you’re in the downward dog position? Here are five unconventional (and cool, we promise) places to do yoga:
1. On Broadway
[PopUpYoga34]Every Wednesday you can take a free class with PopUpYoga34. The class happens on Broadway in between 34th and 35th street at 6pm. Have fun, get fit, and find your urban zen!
2. Central Park
[Well + Good]This one is perhaps becoming more conventional, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Central Park is a hub for all kinds of sports and physical activities. Why shouldn’t yoga be one of them?
3. On a rooftop
[Eventbrite]Lots of places in the city host rooftop yoga classes. Perhaps the coolest location is a rooftop farm in the Brooklyn navy yard. You’ll be surrounded by skyline views, and spinach.
4. On the river
[New York Kayak Co.]Paddle board yoga is a new trend and a new twist on yoga. The concept is simple—do your poses on a paddle board. But the practice is very difficult because it tests your core strength and your balance.
5. In the club
[Facebook/Verboten]This is by far the weirdest—doing yoga on the rave dance floor with house music pumping all around you. This class actually happens at the Brooklyn dance club Verboten. Not sure how this environment gets you to relax, but if it works for you, go for it.
