Though MetroCards are inching closer towards officially being replaced by OMNY, more and more collectible MetroCards keep on coming–though this time they’re not exactly new.
The New York Transit Museum is currently selling original prints of the 1994 collectible New York Rangers Stanley Cup MetroCards.
The cards are being sold as a set of five and feature the following images:
- Mark Messier
- Brian Leetch
- Mark Messier with the Cup
- Rangers team
- New York Rangers Stanley Cup
And unlike the other collectible MetroCards which cost just $2.90, this set of five is selling for $120. That’s because there’s a very limited quantity available from the 10,000 originally produced.
The New York Transit Museum is also selling a signed version of the Brian Leetch MetroCard–the same card found in the set of five–which only has 2,000 original prints. This card is sold separately from the set of five and is going for $100.
According to Pix 11, New York Transit Museum PR & Marketing Manager Chelsea Newburg stated:
What a time to be a Rangers fan! With the MTA saying goodbye to limited-edition MetroCards and the Rangers making a playoff push, the New York Transit Museum Store’s authentic set of 5 limited-edition MetroCards created for the Rangers. Only a few remain – get yours before they’re gone!
The MTA recently announced they’ll only release two more collectible MetroCards, and New Yorkers are being asked to desing them! More on this here.
