Finally! Construction on the final section of Brooklyn Bridge Park began this week. The official groundbreaking ceremony for Pier 3, happened on Wednesday with Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio in attendance. the newest portion of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The five-acre pier will include a central lawn, a concrete multi-use area and a play area and is expected to open in 2018. It’s hard to believe that only ten years ago the area was an industrial wasteland.
Sections of Brooklyn Bridge Park opened in 2010, and since then more sections have appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The park is already becoming a fast favorite spot for many New Yorkers and it’s easy to see why; it is already home to a small beach area, a carousel, basketball courts and stunning views of the downtown Manhattan skyline.
