You’re probably still in denial that summer is ending. And that’s okay. That cool fall breeze will hit you and knock you out of your summer forever fantasy world soon enough. But for right now, here are ten awesome events you should check out before the season officially comes to a close:
1. Central Park Film Festival, Aug 26-29
2. Metropolitan Opera Festival, Aug 28-Sept 6
Going to the opera is expensive, but you can watch it for free in Lincoln Center Plaza during the last week of summer.
3. Midnight Mimosaholics, Aug 28
While it’s still warm, take a midnight cruise which includes unlimited mimosas. If you download the Fever app, you can get a ticket for only $35 (usually $55).
4. Wine Tasting and Tour at Palmer Vineyards, Aug 29
Spend the end of the summer in wine country. On this tour you’ll get to taste 6 fine wines, each paired with a cheese or small plate.
5. Hudson Valley Concert Crawl, Aug 29
6. Morbid Anatomy Flea Market, Aug 30
This flea market at the Bell House in Brooklyn is a true anthropological study. Ryan Matthew Cohn of Science Channel’s “Oddities” will be there, with two tables of osteology and antiquities. And that’s only the beginning of the weirdness.
7. NY Adventure Club Roosevelt Island Tour, Aug 30
Explore a place you’ve never been to before. Roosevelt Island is beautiful but also kind of creepy, being home to eight former hospitals and insane asylums, and a lighthouse built by prisoners.
8. Labor Day Weekend Yacht Party, Sept 4
9. Unicycle Festival, Sept 5
Talk about quintessential New York. At this festival on Governor’s Island, you can watch crazy stunt shows and even try unicycling yourself.
10. Monmouth Park Beer and Barbecue Fest, Sept 5-7
Barbecue isn’t just for the south. We can do it up here in the Northeast too. And if you love barbecue (and beer) you definitely need to check out this three day festival at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Jersey.
