Unlike most of NYC’s food trends, a new one has cropped up that not only looks delicious but doesn’t seem like it has enough calories to give you an instant heart attack (see the Spaghetti Donuts or a pizza served in a box made of pizza). Dominique Ansel’s Watermelon Soft Serve is here, and it’s causing queues around the block, literally.
Questlove has so many strings to his professional bow he makes your average Joe seem a little lazy; a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, music journalist, record producer, actor… oh yeah, he occasionally likes to opine on the culinary world too. His Instagram food account QuestlovesFood boasts a not-too-shabby 67.6k followers. So when Questlove makes a request, restaurateurs listen.
When the musician posted recently “How do I convince my pal, Dominique Ansel, Willy Wonka himself, to bring his new Watermelon Soft Serve to NYC??” It was only a matter of time before Ansel concurred. He announced he’d be temporarily serving the soft serve at Dominique Ansel Kitchen in Manhattan.
It’s a slice of ripe watermelon with chocolate seeds filled with watermelon soft serve ice cream. The “What-a-Melon Soft Serve” made its debut on Saturday, and the lines to the 7th Avenue eatery were crazy, see for yourself:
