It was just recently confirmed that Elon Musk has been granted permission to build a Hyperloop that will take you from NYC to Washington D.C. in 29 minutes, with stops in Philly and Baltimore. While that might take quite a few years to actually be built, there’s plenty of other cool futuristic transport we’d love to see in the city.ç
- Hover cars Look, we’ve been promised these babies since the 50s. Can you imagine hovering traffic, the likes of Star Wars or The Fifth Element? Think about how much ground pollution that would get rid of, and how much more pedestrian space we’d have everywhere!
- Personal Subway or Bus Routes
Ever wish your train or bus dropped you off right in front of your apartment? What if we made a system where it could? Might be a little messy at first, but you’d never really complain about how long your commute it again. - Jetpacks OK, even better than a whole bus that drops you were you need to go, what if every New Yorker was given their very own jetpack? Personally, flying machines would get us well above any ground traffic, though the requirements for licenses may need to be a bit tight. We don’t need any mid-air collisions!
- Teleportation
The mother of all transportation ideas. Imagine it, you walk to your subway station but instead of a train, you step in one of a few teleporters. Set your coordinates and voila, you’re there instantly. What could possibly go wrong, messing constantly with your molecular structure? Absolutely nothing!
