As the temperature drops, we begin to favor the comfort of our apartments to the cutting chill on the streets of NYC. There’s more to look forward to than the return of ‘The Walking Dead’. The city comes alive at the start of the year, here are our top 5 underappreciated events that land in January.

Coney Island Polar Bear Club New Year’s Day Swim

What better way to user in the new year than plunge yourself into icey waters with The Coney Island Polar Bear Club? Well, actually hundreds of things, but the New Years Day Swim is raising money for Camp Sunshine, a charity that supports children who have life-threatening illnesses, so it’s at the top of our list!

 No Pants Subway Ride

Created by Improv Everywhere’s Charlie Todd, the No Pants Subway Ride has been around since 2002. One of NYC’s weirdest and funniest traditions, this year promises to be one of the biggest ever.
