Summer Streets is a  NYC Department of Transportation project and celebrates New York City’s streets in the most unique and fun ways imaginable. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets are free of cars, and opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. In 2015, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets, and this year organizers expect more!

At the heart of the celebration is a reminder for New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation and engage in healthy recreation… but let’s be honest, we’re going to enjoy the surreal feeling of going up or down Park Ave with no cars!

The event is modeled on other events from around the world including Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia and the Paris Plage in France.

You can enjoy the Summer Streets festivities from  7:00 am to 1:00 pm, and it extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue and connecting streets.

As you can see, there is easy access from all points in New York City making it easy for participants to plan trips as long or short as they want. All of the activities are free, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels to share the streets together.
